The Institute for the Advancement of Humanity, a non-profit organization that embodies the life and legacy of a beloved woman, Prof. Mosunmola Omibiyi Obidike. She was a woman of many firsts, the first female professor of Musicology in Africa, a pioneer, a visionary, and a true force of nature.

Mum

The Institute for the Advancement of Humanity was born out of a deep sense of loss and a profound desire to honor and celebrate the life of this remarkable woman. In 2016, when Prof. Mosunmola Omibiyi Obidike passed away, the world lost a true champion of women’s empowerment, art, and culture. But her spirit lives on in the work we do, in the lives we touch, and in the hope we inspire.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple yet profound – to support and empower women, particularly single mothers and widows, and children in the arts, just as she did. Through programs, support, and advocacy initiatives, we seek to give women an opportunity to live their best lives and help children breathe so they can become lights to a new humanity.

At the Institute for the Advancement of Humanity, we believe that art is not just a form of self-expression, but a powerful tool for transformation and social change. It has the power to heal, to unite, to inspire, and to uplift. And it is through this lens that we approach our work, with passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to creating a better world for all.

Our programs and initiatives are designed to provide women and children with the resources, tools, and support they need to thrive. We offer educational scholarships, mentorship programs, and entrepreneurship training for women, as well as after-school programs, arts camps, and creative workshops for children.

We also collaborate with other organizations, artists, and cultural institutions to create impactful events, exhibits, and performances that celebrate diversity, foster dialogue, and promote social justice.

As we continue to grow and expand our reach, we remain guided by the vision and spirit of our inspiration, Prof. Mosunmola Omibiyi Obidike. She was a trailblazer, a leader, and a true inspiration to all who knew her. And it is through our work that we hope to honor her legacy, to continue her mission, and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Thank you for your interest in The Institute for the Advancement of Humanity. We invite you to join us on this journey, to be a part of our community, and to help us create a world where every woman and child can thrive and shine.
