Kindness for the Arts
A legacy to the work of Prof. Omibiyi Obidike an avid proponent, researcher, and scholar in music. She did research and interviews with prominent African artists and was a Humboldt scholar. As a child and teen, I transcribed her interviews with artists such as Fela Anikulapokuti
She was also a music educator and encouraged many children in Nigeria to take up classical instruments such as the violin, the viola, chello and the piano. She was a mentor to many. Kindness for the arts seeks to continue her work of supporting and developing talent within the US in underserved communities and in Nigeria.
The project is to provide money to support art programs in Atlanta and Nigeria.
Atlanta
In the Kindness for the Arts program, our goal is to
- Provide sponsors for the studio’s programs.
- Individual girls and choristers provide people who would sponsor a child for the year.
Regarding studio sponsors, I am seeking sponsors who are willing to commit to supporting the studio’s activities for a period of 5 years. The sponsorship amount required is $10,000.
With regards to adopting a chorister or a dancer, I’m looking at for the dancers $5000 for a chorister $5000.
Nigeria
This aspect is very dear to us. We are looking to provide instruments to children in Nigeria who are currently looking to become proficient in various instruments. We will partner with schools to sponsor children and use that to identify talent that can be given scholarships to train abroad or be exposed to the entertainment industry. We hope to build a facility to provide training in dance, voice, theatre, and instruments. Our initial ask for the projects in Nigeria is $20,000
